Giving Back

Joyce believes in giving back to the community that has been so kind to her, so she has combined this with her love of knitting to create “Mittens & Hats for the Needy.”These beautiful handmade sets are given to programs such as People in Need and the Salvation Army. Some are also donated to local churches for their fundraisers. Recently, Joyce made several donations to the new Ronald McDonald House at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. One of Joyce’s grandsons is a former non-Hodgkins lymphoma patient, and Levine’s was very instrumental in his recovery.Joyce also gives mittens and hats to clients while keeping tabs on the number of sets. For each set given away, she will donate $20 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.Says Joyce: “I have been very fortunate to have many people give me yarn they no longer need that I can use for this project. My goal is to make at least a hundred sets a year. This is accomplished in my off hours when not pursuing my career as a CPA.”For more information or to get involved in this project, please use the contact form on this website.
